PES 2012 – The Story So Far

PESGaming community.
It has been drawn to my attention that some of the community feel that this site is being neglected. This does actually appear to be the case. As many of you may remember, I (Dan Bolas) left the site to concentrate on new projects, and brought 5 new pairs of hands on board in order to keep the ship running steady. As it stands at the moment, Vince K is the only one remaining, with the other people finding the weekly or fortnightly commitment too much to fulfil (and let’s face it, for some people who work 50 hour a week jobs, writing a thousand plus words in their free time probably isn’t that fun!) To the doubters, I hope that come September, the new look and up to date PES Gaming will prove that in spite of no longer being ‘involved’ with the site, my intentions are very much of that to keep this site running, and I would, as always, welcome any new contributors, authors or bloggers to give writing for this fine, long running website a shot. Its easy to post five line comments criticising a column, its a completely different kettle of fish when coming up with well structured and articulate points is the name of the game, and I think I have managed a couple of them over the years!
But, back to the point in hand, the news about PES 2012. Seeing as PES Gaming is apparantly ‘dead’ I am sure you have visited the numerous other PES based fan sites to find… very little. The odd playtest hear, the odd link to an online rankings competition there, and the truth that at the time of writing ‘official’ PES site PESFan is actually offline!
Perhaps is having done this for the past eight years, or perhaps its the fact I am just slightly more cynical now, but until we start seeing concrete game play footage (usually scheduled for around late August) or the demo whispers begin to occur, all the sound bites and interviews seem just a little too predictable. I still love PES (I have a World Cup Game vs. Wales paused as I pen this) yet we, as a community have been burned in the past by promises which have either fallen short of the claims (online play) or been produced at the expense of other key features (the laughing stock that is this year’s Master League Transfer Market).
However, what we can draw is a couple of solid ‘bullet points’ that will hopefully give the current PES fan their own personal fix of what exactly they can, sort of, might be able to expect in PES 2012. Here goes:
  • Those who have played the current version (which is probably in the region 0f 70% complete at this time) claim that all teams behave uniquely, gameplay is more fluid, goalkeepers and referees are improved and team and individual AI is ‘Groundbreaking. Granted, this does sound a lot like the PES 2011 preview, but if it is true, PES 2012 is onto something.
  • Graphical enhancements promised include more creatively designed fans, pitchside managers visable (unsure if these are customisable) and a brand new camera angle!
  • D-Pad control for PES 2012 is still present, but there is the option to map tactics to the D-Pad if you are an analogue gamer.
  • In its current build, both through balls and shooting seem to be off the mark. This has been confirmed by a couple of people who have played the game so far.
  • There is, as of yet, no news on customisable nets, uploadable replays or if two players can compete against each other in a league or cup, however it is confirmed that each team will only have two kits (not three).
  • Penalty camera angle is back to normal (thank goodness)
  • Jon Murphy (who genuinely is a top guy btw) believes that this years PES will and I quote “SMASH” the opposition when it comes to gameplay this season. Anyone would think he was paid to drum up PR about the game!
  • If you like HD Screen shots of French and Italian virtual footballers, French website http://www.jeuxactu.com will be right up your street. Visit HERE to see what PES 2012 might just look like! (Yes, its in French)
So that’s where we are. There are no official release dates, and baring the OFFICIAL TRAILER (which to me looks VERY similar to PES 2011) there is not alot else to report. I will continue to keep the community up to date with the latest goings on, and if anyone wants to come on board, you can do so by contacting me on dan@soccergaming.com
