Hello, and welcome to another installment of “Imaginative PES”. Thanks to Dan for clearing up any confusion about the status of your favorite PES site. Let’s keep things moving!
It seems that a lot of positive news has been coming out about PES 2012. It does indeed seem that KONAMI are at least listening with one ear about what kind of PES we want. Personally, a fully operable online and a custom cam would be best for me, but others are more picky. I think one of the pickiest desires out there is a net editor. Well, Jon Murphy has come out and specifically addressed that issue. While we can select from a choice of netting, there will be no net editor.
We’ve all seen the latest videos about the AI making runs, about controlling two players at once, about the AI smartening up. These are novel ideas; however, the videos aren’t fully representative of the success of these additions. It seems that the game difficulty in the videos was set to the lowest possible setting. I wait to pass judgment until I see a proper representation. Then we’ll really see if the AI has learned anything since PES 2011. Because in PES 2011, the AI was pretty dumb. Jon Murphy has also stated that the referees are much brighter in PES 2012. Again, I’ll believe that when I see it. But, I suppose that they couldn’t get any worse.
At one point this year, I seem to remember maybe Seabass stating that the next installment of PES wouldn’t be as heavy on cutscenes as 2011 was. I’m not sure exactly what that means, because we’ve heard that 2012 will have scenes of grounds crew preparing the pitch, managers on the sidelines, TV crew, and players warming up before the match. Which part of this is pregame and during the game remains to be seen. I don’t really care if there are cutscenes or not. If someone doesn’t want to watch them, he can press the ole’ start button and skip them.
I think that controlling our PES gaming experience is always the utmost concern we have. Until the programming is set up so that we can basically map PES in every way, customizing it to react under every circumstance possible with every possible option, we’re going to see some folks unhappy. I’m not a fan of the phrase “Total Freedom” that KONAMI has said that we would have with PES 2011 and again with 2012. As Amateur will tell you, that is simply not going to be the case.
Aside from having electrodes attached to our brains, how does controlling our players evolve from here? I’ll continue to hold the belief that with the current PS3 or Xbox controller, we can’t control the players as much as we probably could. There was the discussion of maybe introducing some kind of voice-operated controls in PES. I think that may be a good start, a good introduction to the “next-gen” of controlling. Of course voice recognition probably wouldn’t be as reliable as we could hope, and even current motion-sensing devices wouldn’t work well in a game like PES. I think the brain electrode scenario is where we need to go. Any volunteers?
My guess is that we’ll see a demo available of PES 2012 a few weeks before FIFA 12 is released. As always, the commercial version is somewhat different from the demo. But, we’ll at least get a chance to try out some of these new features that could provide some of the player control that we’ve been calling for. Until then, let’s keep the forum open.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for visiting PESGAMING.COM. Share your hopes and dreams in the comments section, but be prepared to take a verbal beating by some of our beloved guests. Don’t worry, we’re all one big happy family.
