Resistance 3 Abilities and Attributes

When I was six years of age, I had a life changing moment.  I watched Spiderman: The Animated Series for the first time.  I was mesmerized.  A simple spider bite completely changed Peter Parker for life – it made him faster, stronger, swingier.  I wanted to be changed too.  So, for the next few weeks I did nothing but poach spiders.  When one was within my grasp I would force it to bite my hand – hoping, praying that it would be the one to initiate me into the Swingers Club (don’t read into that).  Unfortunately, the only thing I reaped from my arachnid hunt was a highly infected wound and a medical bill.  Dejectedly, I abandoned my super-human dreams.  Maybe, I’m just going to be a “normie” forever.

That was a lifetime ago, though.  Now I have videogames (plus the occasional dip in radioactive waste, just in case) to quench my thirst for apocryphal power.  Specifically, Resistance 3 multiplayer has an Abilities and Attribute system in place that allows me to customize and enhance the way I play (for a detailed overview watch this video).  Over 30 unique skills are up for grabs to use in 4 divided slots – Support & Tactical Abilities and Personal and Combat Attributes.  It’s like having your own super powers!  Minus the tights… Well, for most of us anyways.
Let’s get a closer look at some of my favorites along with the full list, shall we?

Support Ability
Radar Decoy – I’ll admit it.  I was one of those runts who used to glue quarters on the ground solely so I could giggle as an innocent pedestrian struggled to claim their monetary prize.  This ability allows me relive those glory days – only with slightly more explosions.  Activate it and a decoy hologram will appear.  However, if an enemy gets within 5 feet – it goes boom.  Let the giggling commence.
Full List:
  • Bubble Shield: Deploys a static shield around the player till it wears off or sustains enough damage to break.
  • Healing Beacon: Forms a circle of health regeneration where the player and their team will heal faster while they stand in it.
  • Ammo Beacon: Forms a circle of ammo regeneration for the equipped weapon of the player or their team while they stand in it.
  • Radar Beacon: Deploys a beacon that puts all enemies on radar within a limited local range.
  • Spotter: Enemies seen by the player will be “marked” and easier to see.  They will also be visible on the player’s teammate’s radar.
  • Radar Decoy: Beacon that comes up on enemy radar as red dot and produces a hologram – If an enemy is within 5 meter of the decoy – it blows up.
If one of these guys had Radar Decoy - this battle would be a lot more boomtastic.
Tactical Ability
Dash – If there was one thing that martial arts taught me it’s that speed > strength.  Seriously, if you’re a meat-head, I will run around in circles till you tire out.  It’s a foolproof plan that ensures my face stays not-broken (you’re welcome, ladies).  Dash gives you a burst of speed.  So you can either run from your pursuers like me – or give them a surprise when you dash forward to introduce them and your friend Mr. Fire Shotty.  He’s not so hot with the pleasantries.
Full List:
  • Lightning Shield: Player creates a temporary field around them that negates melee damage and harms the attacker.
  • Doppelganger: Player creates identical image of himself that is offset from their position and follows them around the map – imitating all the players’ gestures.
  • Thermal Vision: Player can clearly see all enemies on the map – even through walls and other obstacles.
  • Assassin: Makes the player’s movement silent and makes them look like the other team.
  • Dash: Allows the player to dash forward.
  • Turret: A turret is deployed that attacks enemies for a certain period of time.
See that Chimera in the back? Ya, the one whose dead body is flying in the air. He should have used Dash...
Personal Attribute
Hazmat Suit – I’ve said the phrase “I’m on fire!” more times in my life than I’d like to admit.  And, no, it’s not because I was being awesome – it’s because I have an infatuation with flames, but a clumsy nature.  If I had the Hazmat Suit, though, getting burned wouldn’t be an issue.  In addition to protecting you from fire, it also makes you invulnerable to being slowed or plagued and prevents attached projectiles, like the Bullseye Tag, from sticking to you.  I can think of one or two-hundred times that could have been useful in my life.
Full List:
  • Demolitions: Increased damage for all explosive weapons/damage generated by the player.
  • Body Armor: Boosts player health, but reduces player movements.
  • Hazmat Suit: Eliminates all damage-over-time effects and also prevents attached projectiles from sticking to the player.
  • Gunslinger: Increases the player’s accuracy while firing on the run.
  • Bandolier: Increases the player’s ammo and alternative fire capacity.
  • Visual Health Indicators: Player will be able to see the amount of health enemies have.
  • Leaper Corpse: Upon death, leapers will burst from the player’s corpse and attack nearby enemies.
  • Tactician: Makes all Abilities cool down slightly faster.
  • Tracker: The player will be able to see the footprints of the enemy for a certain amount of time.
Proactiv can't help those boils. Best use the Hazmat Suit next time, George the Chimera.
Combat Attribute
Team Player: At the ripe age of seven I gave Baseball a try.  The result was my father incessantly shouting “Get the ball, Brandon” at me from the stands.  So, at one stellar game I ran from the outfield, pushed my own pitcher down, pried the ball from his hands, ran back to the outfield, and threw the ball back to him.  Shockingly, I didn’t make many friends that year.  So, since that fateful, friendless day I’ve tried to be a better team player.  This attribute helps me achieve that because it increases the radius of my support abilities – making everyone happy.  Except my dad who still shouts, “Capture the node, Brandon!”
Full List:
  • Grenadier: Increases grenade capacity and amount of grenade types the player can carry.
  • Air-Cooled Barrel: Increases the rate of fire for primary weapons while using the iron sights.
  • Scan Jammer: Causes distortion in enemy tracking systems when the player is near.
  • Scavenger: Fallen enemies give 25% health, and ammo/alt-fire packs to the player when they run over them.
  • Patience: The longer the player has the enemy within their crosshairs – the larger amount of bonus damage the weapon will do to that enemy.
  • Strapped: Player can choose two starting primary weapons.
  • Berserker: Reduces the kill requirements for berserks.
  • Team Player: Increases the radius of support abilities.
  • Hotfoot: The player has increased sprint duration and movement speed.
Even hobo's use teamwork!
There you have it.  30 unique skills you can mix-and-match to accommodate your personal play-style.  You’ll feel as powerful as any superhero from your Saturday morning cartoons – and you don’t even have to endure the sweet sting of spider venom.  Plus, in Resistance 3 you can upgrade each ability and attribute to be even more effective.  That’s like Spider-Man becoming Tarantula-Man.
