U.S. President Barack Obama believes nuclear power is an important energy source in the United States.
Obama said in a television interview Tuesday that nuclear power plants are designed to withstand a certain level of natural disasters, including earthquakes and floods. But, he admits there is no means of energy that did not have a shortage. He said it is important to try to improve the safety of nuclear technology.
A spokesman for the American Nuclear Authorities, Scott Burnell, told VOA Tuesday, every request to build nuclear power plants in the United States should consider the possibility of devastating events in any location, such as heavy snow, floods, earthquakes and tsunamis.
Burnell said the United States will investigate all information collected from the nuclear crisis in Japan to see what can be learned from the disaster.
Problems in nuclear power plants that were damaged by the quake hit the nuclear industry worldwide. Shares of companies that build or run nuclear power plants, falling prices. There has also reduced the price of uranium fuel.
