Mariah Carey (born in New York, March 27, 1970, age 41 years) is a singer, writer and songwriter, record producer, and actress from the United States. He made his recording debut in 1990 under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, and became the first musician who had five first major U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. After her marriage to Mottola in 1993, a series of hit songs establish a position as an artist with Columbia records highest sales. Carey has sold more than 200 million albums, singles and videos worldwide. He was named the best-selling female singer of the millennium in the World Music Awards in 2000. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, he is the third biggest-selling female singer with sales of more than 63 million albums in the United States. He also ranks as the best-selling female singer Nielsen SoundScan era U.S.. He has the most number one singles for a solo singer in the United States (eighteen singles; second artist overall behind The Beatles). In 2008, Billboard magazine sort Carey at number six on "The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists", making Carey the second female artist after Madonna the most successful in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Children and Youth (1970-1989)
